Overview

Jorge approached Octopus Ink in 2020. Originally from Costa Rica, Jorge came over to the UK to study and wanted to set up a coffee business to share his country’s finest product with the UK.

The company’s name is Monarca and he has been importing Costa Rica’s finest coffee into the UK. The company name, Monarca, is a translation of the word ‘Monarch’ in English. The story behind the name dates back to 1843, a key moment in time of the Costa Rican coffee industry and general economy. It was in 1843 when the first direct export of Costa Rican green coffee was shipped from from Costa Rica directly into the UK by a ship named “The Monarch”, the UK then became Costa Rica’s primary buyer of green coffee beans. In addition to the history of the coffee, the story also resonates with Jorge and his own journey as he came to the UK from Costa Rica.

We worked with Jorge to create the logo design and branding that reflected his story. We are also currently working on coffee packaging and a new website design for Jorge! Watch this space.
